I was up in the area visiting friends and when asked about dining I instantly suggested The Back Street as I’ve been here before and my mouth was watering thinking... read more about that runny scotch egg.
We were a table of four and sat by the window. The staff were all extremely friendly and the service was like no other. I had the scotch egg which was amazing as always. My main was the lamb rump which was cooked perfectly. The taste was amazing and I still think about it now.
The dessert was creme brûlée which was velvety and smooth, the chef should definitely give himself a big pat on the back as the food is like no other.
I had an espresso martini which was the best I’ve ever had. I’m not sure what’s different about it but the martini beats any other restaurants by far.
The owners should be incredibly proud of the staff here as it’s like a home from home environment which I love. When I’m back up I’ll visit again. Highly recommend!

You have to try the Scotch Egg here! It is absolutely delicious! I ordered one and barely got to eat any of it because the rest of my family kept... read more 'tasting' it. Because of that, everyone decided to order one as well and I got my pay back. Ha. My husband ordered the steak and told me it is the best he has ever had! I ordered the seafood pasta and it is was okay. The kids liked their meal as well. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious as well. And the service was phenomenal. The staff was so incredibly kind. We would definitely eat here again when we pass through Dumfries.

If you’re visiting Dumfries then give this restaurant a go!
I recently visited this restaurant with my husband. We were welcomed by a very well dressed waitress. She was... read more extremely polite and showed us our table for the evening.
We had a lovely view out the window and were given a jug of water for the table. It took us a while to decide what to order because the menu has such a great range of food options. There really is something for everyone whether you’re vegan/vegetarian/gluten or dairy free.
I had the scotch egg to start and would love to know how the chef gets the egg to stay so runny. A true watering mouth moment.
For my mains I had the kiev as I’ve heard from many colleagues that this is the best kiev in town. It was cooked to perfection and comes with a side of macaroni cheese - DELICIOUS!
Dessert I went for the brownie because again so many people have recommended this to me. It DID NOT DISAPPOINT !
The wine menu is also excellent with a good selection. I had the picpoul de pinet which was very reasonably priced and we enjoyed this along with a few cheeky cocktails.
Overall a beautiful restaurant and our new local!

The good is very good but the restaurant is very noisy or at least has been both times we've been there due to very large parties in the middle of... read more the restaurant. The noise from the table of maybe 15 made conversation very difficult. Service was also a bit slow--probably due to the large group. The lamb was truly excellent but I'm not sure the meal is worth the noise. I wonder if some kind of sound mitigation would help.

Spotted this place in Dumfries and Galloway Life, so thought we would give it a go when we were visiting Dumfries.
The restaurant is located on a side street just... read more off the town centre of town and is positioned on the 1st floor.
The off street entrance and stairs are rather utilitarian, but once inside the restaurant, the atmosphere is transformed.
The restaurant area is spacious, the tables are well spaced and well-sized even for our party of two.
The decor is minimalist, in a good way, with a wooden floor. There is also a well stocked bar. The waiting staff were friendly and knowledgeable, including on dietary requirements. I plumped for the Flat Iron Steak (12oz, I think), cooked to my liking, medium rare. It was delicious.
We will definitely return the next time we are staying in the Dumfries area
