Fantastic Restaurant with Lovely Friendly staff! The food was absolutely gorgeous as ever, as eaten here lots of times! The menu is changed every now and then! There is something... read more for everyone! I even managed 3 courses as couldn’t resist the delicious mars bar baked Alaska! Cocktails are probably the best in the town I have tasted especially the Pina colada! We were served very quickly and nothing was too much bother! The restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere and very clean! We had a meal with friends wedding anniversary and would definitely recommend anyone to come eat here as you definitely wont be disappointed!

On a very busy Wednesday night not a table spare the service was outstanding and... read more the food was also outstanding. My Scothern egg was superb followed by lamb and cottage pie which were cooked to perfection, my wife's chicken kyiv was also faultless.

We were travelling to Gatehouse of Fleet from Aberdeen for the wedding and decided to stop by Dumfries to have some food. A quick search on Google and the Back... read more Street was booked for 17.00
I wasn't too keen on the decor inside but 5 stars for the amazing food. Honestly, top class restaurant quality, quick service and very reasonable prices.
We all (3 of us) had a 3-course meal and nothing was left on the plates. Absolute perfection!
Will not hesitate for one second to visit again if I'm ever in Dumfries.

The good is very good but the restaurant is very noisy or at least has been both times we've been there due to very large parties in the middle of... read more the restaurant. The noise from the table of maybe 15 made conversation very difficult. Service was also a bit slow--probably due to the large group. The lamb was truly excellent but I'm not sure the meal is worth the noise. I wonder if some kind of sound mitigation would help.

My partner and I visited for the umpteenth time last weekend and had another great visit.
Started with the best cocktails in Dumfries (highly recommend trying ‘A History... read more of Violet’) and we shared the Haggis scotch egg to start. The yolk was cooked to perfection and I wish we hadn’t bothered sharing once we tucked in…
For mains my partner had the Chicken Kiev which comes with a generous portion of Mac&cheese and tender stem broccoli. The chicken Kiev looked amazing and my partner commented it was the best comfort meal they’d had in a long time.
I had no choice but to go with my favourite dish - the mussels. Cooked beautifully, like every other time. Never an unopened mussel in the bowl, and I don’t know where the chef gets them, but these are the largest mussels I’ve ever seen.
We finished up with yet more cocktails, served by a really polite and welcoming team. I noticed the restaurant had also been redecorated since we were last in, and it looks very fresh and modern.
Easiest decision is always where to go for dinner - The Back Street!
Hardest decisions are what amazing food and drink and we having this time, since we can’t have it all!
My partner and I came here for a date night and were delighted with the food and experience. My boyfriend had the haggis scotch egg for starter which was amazing,... read more he then had the beef feather blade and mustard mash which he said was the nicest dish he’d ever eaten. 10/10. I’m vegetarian so I had the lentil beetroot burger which was amazing and filling. Lovely atmosphere, amazing food and really friendly staff. Would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone! Don’t miss out.

We ate at the Back Street midweek getting a break from the kids and it was fantastic. Really efficient, attentive service and the food was probably some of the best... read more I've had in Dumfries. The strawberry daiquiri as well was delicious. My husband ordered the back street stack burger which came with a fried chicken fillet, seriously they should consider selling that alone as a dish in mini fillet form because it was just sublime. My mac and cheese was hands down the best I've had eating out.
Will definitely be back for a visit again soon.

I recently visited The Back Street for a family meal. I was with my wife, daughter and granddaughter. We were seated at a window table by a polite waitress. I had... read more the mushroom starter which was excellent and then the turkey. I also had the rose water trifle which was very well presented and tasty.
I had a non alcoholic kopperberg as I was driving. There was a wide range of drinks. My wife and daughter had cocktails.

Came here on a recommendation of a family member we were visiting in Dumfries. It certainly didn't disappoint.
2meter spacing between all tables a great change from the restaurants trying... read more to cram as many in. Service was attentive by a young girl. An older lady behind the bar making some fabulous cocktails also took time to chat and have a laugh with us. Great friendly vibe.
Previously mentioned cocktails out of this world.
Starters took around 10 minutes to arrive from ordering. Very good for a busy Saturday night. All obviously homemade. Scotch eggx3 and carpaccio at the table to start. Venisonx2 chicken and steak for main.
Absolutely phenomenonal. Presentation, flavour, you'd struggle to find a meal this good in Glasgow.
One cheeseboard to share and a brownie for dessert scoffed down before a cocktail before leaving.
Amazing staff, amazining food and a great space upstairs, even if we did get lost trying to find it!
10/10
We went tonight , had an amazing starter, the haggis scotch egg,
unfortunately they then had a power cut and had to close , the staff were lovely and... read more sooo apologetic, even though it was beyond their control

Dumfries feels a bit run down but this restaurant was buzzing and served good food at reasonable prices. Staff were friendly and we enjoyed our evening.
Visited this amazing restaurant last night for the first time . I can assure you we will return . My husband was desperate to try the scotch egg and it... read more lived up to the reputation. The food was very different combining ingredients that you would not expect to work . I love gnocchi but was hesitant to order it,however the waitress informed me it was a favourite of hers ! I can honestly say it’s the best I have ever experienced. As for the elderflower parfait an array of flavours that took us both by surprise. An absolute delight . The service was excellent attentive friendly and they were knowledgeable of the dishes . We cannot wait to return .
